YEAR 10 ABORIGINAL STUDIES - Nuragunya Cultural Camp
Year 10 Aboriginal Studies class travelled to the Milton Nuragunya Aboriginal Cultural Camp. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown around by local elder, Uncle Noel Butler and his wife Aunty Trish. The camp was a valuable immersion for our students and teachers in a cultural hands on experience. Mrs Christine Finney started the camp with a smoking and spiritual mass on the grounds, which allowed all to be connected to the land and our Catholic faith, which set the pace for a beautiful camp to begin.
The camp also allowed everyone the chance to create a piece of tradition Aboriginal Cultural Art which saw the boys doing Men’s Business going into the bush at the camp to gather their wood to make spears, clapsticks and spear heads. The girls also produced beautiful works of art such as dot painting, shellwork and clapsticks also learning what bush tucker you can use in cooking.

Catholic Schools Regional Debating 2016

Congratulations to Year 7 students Yasmin Willis, Eilish Norwood, Poppy Tay & Fleur Hussein for recently competing in the Catholic Schools Regional Debating Competition.

The girls lost narrowly on the day but their achievement in reaching this stage showed us the strong debating tradition of St John's.
